Welcome back to your weekly AI roundup.

If last week was about AI becoming persistent and embodied, this week was about everything tightening up. Anthropic's Mythos 5 is partially back online. OpenAI quietly previewed GPT-5.6 in three flavours. Qualcomm spent $4 billion buying Modular. And ByteDance shipped native 4K AI video that runs for a full 30 seconds in a single prompt.

Here are the moves that matter most for your work, your projects, and where this is all heading. Let's get into it.

Anthropic Receives US Approval to Restore Limited Mythos 5 Access

Two weeks after the abrupt export-control shutdown, Anthropic has received US approval to restore some access to its Mythos 5 model. The approval covers use by "certain trusted partners" after Anthropic addressed national security concerns. Fable 5 remains fully restricted, and Anthropic says it's now working on a broader policy framework to handle similar situations going forward. A partial return to normal, with clearer guardrails now being built around frontier model access.

OpenAI started a limited preview of its GPT-5.6 series, available to a select group of trusted partners. The series ships in three variants designed for different use cases and cost profiles: Sol (noted for strong cybersecurity capabilities), Terra, and Luna. OpenAI confirmed it collaborated directly with the US government to ensure the models meet security standards before a broader release, signalling the new normal for how frontier models are rolled out.

Insight of the Week: AI Is Getting Its First Real Operating Constraints

For three years, the AI story has been almost entirely about acceleration. Bigger models. Faster releases. More capability. This week marked something different. The most important headlines were about boundaries: Anthropic getting partial Mythos 5 access back under a tightly negotiated framework, OpenAI working hand-in-hand with the US government to gate the GPT-5.6 rollout, Qualcomm spending $4 billion to control its own AI software layer, and Altman willing to delay an IPO by a full year to defend a $1 trillion valuation. The frontier is starting to operate inside real constraints, not just technical ones.

For businesses, this changes how you should think about AI procurement. Models will increasingly come with usage tiers tied to who you are and where you operate. Multi-model orchestration tools like Sakana's Fugu and Notion's External Agents stop being optional and start being core infrastructure. Owning your AI layer or at least being able to swap it cleanly is becoming a competitive advantage, not a nice-to-have.

For professionals, the deeper signal is that AI is maturing past its "anything is possible" phase into something more like the cloud era of the early 2010s. Capability is no longer the only question. Governance, geography, and access are now first-class concerns. The people building AI strategy who recognize this shift early are going to look very smart over the next 12 months.
